Rhacodactylus ciliatus
From New Caledonia, this gecko has been "re-discovered" in 1994 although it was thought to have disappeared. It belongs to the Gekkonidae family, Diplodactylinae sub-family. An adult reaches about 20 cm (8 in.) long. It's a nocturnal and arboreal lizard which can climb on vertical surfaces thanks to the adhesive lamellae under its fingers and the tip of its tail. It can lose its tail after a trauma or in case of important stress. Opposite to Eublepharis macularius, the tail does not regenerate. Rhacodactylus ciliatus must be maintained at low temperatures, under 30 °C. In captivity, it can be fed with insects and baby fruit puree or an appropriate powder by T-Rex (Rhacodactylus Diet). Sexual maturity is reached at one year of age and individuals can only be sexed at that moment. Chromatic polymorphism characteristic of crested gecko's pattern allowed a selection of morphs : Harlequin, Flame, Dalmatians, Red, Orange… We have a group of genitors which were selected among the nicest morphs: Red, Orange, Dalmatians, Harlequin, Flame and Pinstripe.
