Sauromalus ater (ex obesus)
From West USA deserts (South West California, South Nevada, South West Utah, West Arizona) and North West Mexico (West of Sonora and next to lower California) plus the Gulf islands of: Bellana, Danzante, El Coyote, Espirito Santo, Gallo, Partida Sur, San Cosme, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, San Marcos, Santa Cruz, Tiburon and Willard..
Sauromalus ater can be considered as the New World Uromastyx. As Uromastyx, it lives in desert ecosystems and reaches the respectable size of 45 cm (18 in.), and it is vegetarian. Some individuals, especially males, have red and beige colours, others are black and white. Although more nervous than Uromastyx, Sauromalus ater can however become friendly.
