Petrosaurus thalassinus From Mexico, South of Baja California, this lizard belongs to the Iguanidae family, Phrynosomatinae sub-family. Desert and terrestrial lizard, Petrosauru thalassinus particularly likes rocky habitats, hiding under stones and in holes. It is agile and thin, and easily climbs on rocks. An adult male can reach 40 cm (15 in.) long and a female 30 cm (12 in.). In captivity it can be maintained in similar conditions as Sauromalus except, from some authors, light morning humidity. It is omnivorous, can be fed with insects and baby mice, lettuce, fruit and vegetable. Hibernation is necessary to stimulate mating. Gravid female has a spotted orange pattern, like Crotaphytus. At sexual maturity, we can recognize males from females from the size of their head (larger and more massive), enlarged femoral pores and hemipenal bulges at the base of the tail. Adult male
